Stuff

In celebration of equipment and materials…

It was messing about with a camera and 25 sketchbooks that sparked off an idea about stuff.

The modern myth is that designers stare at computer screens all day. But what I do involves making as well – and over decades, I’ve squirrelled away kit, some of it for jobs that no longer exist. I find it beautiful and as hard to throw out as it is for a musician to say goodbye to an instrument – so the loveliest and most-used design tools have survived studio moves. And the wonderful thing is, in a profession where the learning never stops, new skills mean new equipment and materials…

The book is a short digital print run, bound using copper wire stitching. On collecting the run myself from printer Gavin Martin Colournet, I was greeted by the finisher who had just completed the job. A nice way to round off the project.
