Cutting-out and colouring-in

Volunteering met design on 3 September at Tate Britain’s Embrace the Place, a Tate Local event: Lydia was at the Friends of Abbey Gardens and Somewhere mini urban park installation, where visitors could make their own seed packets and fill them with seeds harvested from Abbey Gardens, an innovative community garden in east London.

Because graphic design is so computer-driven, it’s often mistaken for a technical discipline that can be picked-up on a software course. But judging by the fun Lydia had cutting out paper shapes and the enthusiasm with which visiting designers went for the wax crayons, we’d beg to differ. Even as an adult, you have to have a playful streak.
