We’d seen it in the CGIs we used for the Call for Entries invitations for this year’s Threadneedle Prize for Painting & Sculpture; now we’ve been to the opening of Mall Galleries’ Threadneedle Space, its redeveloped former east gallery designed by Fletcher Priest Architects. The new space reveals the beauty of the arched windows and provides the uncompromisingly-modern showcase for contemporary figurative art that has been hinted-at since the main gallery’s refurbishment. Particularly-clever are the adjustable block sections of wall set on a plinth, which can move forward or back, theatre-style, to show both flat and three-dimensional work.
